1. AUP is now accepting applications for Student Chain of Leadership (SCOL) positions for the 2018-2019 academic year. The open positions are Division Leader (DL), Deputy Division Leader (DDL), and Division Operations Leader (DOL).

2. Those seeking to apply should provide a resume, a letter of recommendation, a 250-word personal statement outlining personal reasons for applying, and a one-page strategic vision outlining challenges and opportunities facing AUP and goals for the upcoming academic year. Please see the attached for an example of a strategic vision. Students may develop their own format so long as they address the same points and maintain the one-page length.

3. Applications will be accepted until COB 30 APR 18 and should be sent to LTJG Christopher Papas at Christopher.D.Papas@cgauxnet.us. All applications will be considered for all SCOL positions by members of the National Staff. Finalists will be contacted for additional questions. Final notification will occur NLT 11 MAY 18.

Subj: NEW DIVISION CHEIF FOR AUXILIARY UNIVERSITY PROGRAMS (AUP) - 16/15

Shipmates,

Please join me in welcoming Tom Brady as our new Division Chief for Auxiliary University Programs (AUP). Mr. Brady assumes the responsibility for overall management of AUP on 1 January. He will work with our branch chiefs and their staffs, student division leader, and unit officers nationwide to continue growing and improving AUP for our students, the Coast Guard, and Coast Guard Auxiliary.

His previous assignments include service as a branch chief within the Auxiliary’s FORCECOM organization, on the First District’s Public Education staff, and as Vice Commander of Flotilla Mamaroneck, NY. His academic experience is as an administrator at State University of New York Empire State College, and as Director of the Center for Academic Excellence at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY. He is a graduate of Manhattan College in Riverdale, NY with a Masters of Science degree in Education.

I extend my warm welcome to Mr. Brady, my thanks for your collective continued service in the Coast Guard Auxiliary, and a very happy New Year to all!

VMI LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE - 15/15

Subj: VMI LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE - 15/15

1. The Virginia Military Institute (VMI) has invited AUP students to participate in the VMI 2016 Leadership Conference, “Ethical Dilemmas in a Digital Age.”  The conference addresses ethical leader development and living honorable lifestyles in contemporary America.

2. The conference will take place 7 March to 8 March 2016 on VMI’s campus in Lexington, Virginia.

3. Interested students should refer to the program website at http://www.vmi.edu/Conferences/Leadership/2015/Program/ for more information and to register for the conference.

4. Students wishing to participate are reminded of the need to follow the conference’s uniform guidelines, practice the most polished customs and courtesies while participating, and to discuss their participation with their flotilla leadership prior to attending so that all are clear on expectations.  This is not an AUP-affiliated event, and orders are not available from AUP for this event.

1. AUP is pleased to announce that Robert "Seb" Meekins from Unit William & Mary will serve as Division Leader for the 2015-2016 academic year. John Matechak from Unit Auburn and Connor Jewett from Unit Citadel will serve as the Deputy Division Leader and Division Operations Leader, respectively.

2. The Division Leader is a more experienced student serving as the senior student leader within AUP nationwide, exercising responsibility, accountability, and authority for AUP's overall student activities while supervising subordinate personnel.  The Division Leader is appointed, relieved by, and reports to, the leader of the national AUP Operations staff.

3. The Deputy Unit Leader is a more experienced student serving as the second most senior student leader within AUP nationwide, exercising secondary responsibility, accountability, and authority for AUP's overall student activities while supervising subordinate personnel in support of the Division Leader, serving as a temporary replacement when the DL is unavailable.  The Deputy Division Leader is appointed and relieved by the leader of the national AUP Operations staff, and reports directly to the Division Leader.

4. The Division Operations Leader is a more experienced student serving as the third most senior student leader within AUP nationally, exercising supervision and primary scheduling coordination among nationwide and field level daily activities while supervising subordinate personnel in support of the Division Leader and Deputy Division Leader, serving as a temporary replacement when both the DL and DDL are unavailable.  The Division Operations Leader is appointed and relieved by the leader of the national AUP Operations staff, and reports directly to the Division Leader, with secondary reporting to the Deputy Division Leader.

1. As we reach the midpoint of the academic semester, we are looking to appoint the 2015-2016 student chain of leadership (SCOL) in the coming weeks.

If you are interested, submit a cover letter; a resume; and a one-page plan for their strategic vision for AUP over the course of the next year to Mr. Jake Shaw (jake.shaw@cgauxnet.us) by March 15th.
