AUP COVID19 STANCE 02/20

Subj: ALAUP #02/20 – AUP COVID19 STANCE

1. AUP Meetings:

a. Over the weekend, the CG COMDT issued guidance to the Coast Guard total workforce regarding COVID19.  Please view the ALCOASTS and the COMDT’s statement on the USCG’s COVI19 information page

     link: https://www.uscg.mil/Coronavirus/

b. Although the Coast Guard is continuing to pursue it’s missions and operational activities are not being broadly cancelled throughout the service (with the exception of Auxiliary activities in District 11 Southern Region, which are suspended for at least 60 days), all members are being asked to use an abundance of caution with regards to sanitation, social distancing, and making smart choices to prevent the spread of this virus.

c. Many, if not all, of your colleges have implemented online solutions in lieu of classroom instruction, and significantly curtailed/cancelled student activities involving in-person gatherings.

d. As a result, AUP national staff strongly advise all AUP units to cease in-person meetings, and conduct meetings via electronic means instead.  Here are some stipulations:

(1) If your university has officially cancelled all in-person student activities, follow suit.

(2) this guidance will remain in place for the foreseeable future; we will update this ALAUP when the COMDT’s stance changes.

2. Travel: as per the guidance in ALCOAST 084/20:  link: https://www.uscg.mil/Coronavirus/Information/Article/2112278/alcoast-08420-covid-19-travel-and-leave-policy/

a. Auxiliarists are strongly recommended to refrain from travelling to a foreign country with a THN (travel health notice) level 2 or 3. Any auxiliary member returning from a THN 3 country may not participate in CG activities or visit an operational unit for at 14 days after returning.

b. Additionally, auxiliarists are advised to use caution when travelling outside their local areas.

3. Thank you for your time and attention to this message. Please convey any concerns or impacts to your unit’s operations via your chain of command.
