Subj: ALAUP #01/21 – AUP COURSE COMPLETIONS, SENIOR STATUS & GRADUATION REQUESTS

1. It is important for active AUP students in Junior Status to complete the courses necessary to advance to Senior Status, as per the program of study. For students who will graduate this coming summer, it is likewise important to meet all necessary elements to apply to, and receive, certification for “AUP Graduate.”  This message provides guidance on both items.

2. Advancing to Senior Status: All Junior students should review the program of study to ascertain what courses they need to complete in order to advance to Senior Status. Complete the applicable courses and submit the prescribed documentation via the AUP website (course completion form).  Once that has been completed, submit your application for Senior Status.  Here are the necessary links:

     a. The program of study is listed on the AUP website:

·        Note for students: To reduce administrative burden, students will NOT have to re-submit documents demonstrating their completion of the Senior PQS requirements, as these documents have already been submitted via course completion.

3. AUP Graduation:  Senior students should review the program of study (link above) to ascertain what courses they need to complete in order to be eligible for Graduation. Outstanding courses should be submitted via the course completion link above (with necessary documentation attached).  Please also be aware that students must be in Senior Status to be eligible to apply to Graduation

b.   Deadline: Please complete the necessary steps to submit your Graduate Application by 31 May 2021.

Note for UOs: Students have 3 years to become a graduate from the date they entered Senior Status. Our 31 May deadline is intended for all students who are in Senior Status and Graduating from their College/University this coming summer.

4. Deadlines/Waivers: Due to the constraints placed on Coast Guard Auxiliarists, personnel, and operations nation-wide as a result of COVID19, it is understood that students may have difficulty completing required courses that are not available online- specifically, an Operational Qualification. If a student is missing an operational qualification, but is otherwise eligible to graduate, the Student and Unit Officer have the option to request a waiver, which will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Other waiver requests (i.e. deadline extensions, etc.) will also be considered.

a.   Waiver Requests: please send an email (either from the Student with consent of UO, or from the UO) to Ashly Thomas at: ashlythomas99@yahoo.com

 b.   If a waiver has already been requested/received, it is not necessary to re-do.
